Free DMV learner’s permit practice test · all 50 states + D.C. · 6 languages
Permit Navi – DMV learner’s permit practice test for all 50 states, in English, Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Japanese
Permit Navi follows your state’s actual permit test format: choose a state and the app uses the question count, passing score and sign-question rules published by that state’s licensing agency. More than 700 questions, answer choices and explanations are stored in English and your chosen language, with spaced-repetition review of the questions you miss, a state-by-state requirements page with official links, and a roadmap from permit to full licence. Free.
Built around each state’s real test
Every state writes its own permit test. Permit Navi matches the format your state has published, and uses your state’s own numbers.
| Coverage | All 50 states plus Washington, D.C. |
|---|---|
| Test format | Question count, passing score and how sign questions are scored follow each state’s published format. States that have not published a format are flagged, not guessed. |
| Languages | English, Japanese, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese. Show English only, your language only, or both. |
| Question bank | 700+ questions: signs and signals, right of way, passing and school buses, parking, speed, alcohol and drugs, special driving conditions, sharing the road, licence rules and what to do after a crash. |
| State-specific figures | Speed limits, under-21 alcohol limits, school bus rules, crash reporting duties and minimum insurance coverage come from each state’s official sources. |
| New York example | The Class D permit test is offered in 20 languages. Residents 16 and older can apply, and applicants under 18 can take the permit test online (DMV takes three business days to review results). |
| New Jersey example | The written knowledge test is offered in 13 languages; oral tests are in English and Spanish. You need 6 points of ID to apply. |

FAQ
Does the app follow my state’s test format?
Yes. Pick your state and the app uses the question count, passing score and sign-question rules that your state’s licensing agency has published. Where a state scores signs and road rules separately, the app does too. If a state has not published its format, the app says so instead of guessing.
Are these the real DMV questions?
No. The questions are original practice questions written from each state’s official driver’s manual and licensing agency website. Permit Navi is an independent study tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any DMV or government agency.
Which languages are supported?
English, Japanese, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese. Questions, answer choices and explanations are stored in English and in your chosen language, and you can display English only, your language only, or both side by side.
Can I take the actual permit test in another language?
It depends on the state. New York offers the Class D permit test in 20 languages, including Spanish, Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Russian, and New Jersey offers its written knowledge test in 13 languages. The app’s state requirements page links to each state’s official site so you can check.
How much does it cost?
Permit Navi is free. Open the app, choose your language and state, and start.
What is the New York 6-point ID calculator?
New York State DMV counts proof-of-identity documents using a points system (form ID-44). Enter the documents you have and the app tells you whether they add up to what the application requires.
Does it cover the road test?
There are no road-test questions, but the licensing roadmap (study → permit → road test → licence) lists each state’s minimum age, permit holding period, supervised driving hours and driver education requirements.
